Another Successful Lights On Afterschool Event
Dayton's Lights On Afterschool Rally was held on Tuesday, October 9, 2007 at the Montgomery County Fairground's Coliseum. Sponsored by the Montgomery County After School Collaboration, over 650 children and adults attended this year's event and we are expecting close to 1,000 children this year.
Our local collaboration is in its 3rd year. The Collaboration's purpose of coming together is, each agency alone could not get a lot of publicity from the news stations and newspapers of Lights On event, but together we could put on a huge event and get the media attention, plus we could combined all our of resources. Last year and again this year our Lights On Afterschool Celebration will be at the Montgomery County Fairground's Coliseum on October 9 th. The entertainment at last year's event was; teens/children performing on a stage, art/craft tables, games, magician, DJ, Peace Mobile from the Peace Museum, Dayton Police Department's DARE Car and the Dayton Fire Department's Ladder Truck. We also had raffle prizes and the children were feed pizza. Dr. Donnell Gregory, City of Dayton's Youth Commissioner, has been the Chair for the last 2 events and will be chairing again this year.
The Montgomery County After School Collaboration consists of the following agencies: 4C For Children , City of Dayton, Dabico Artist League, Dakota Center, Dayton Christian Center, Dayton Urban League, Girl Scouts of Buckeye Trail Council, HighRise Services, House of Bread, Mary Queen of Peace , Mentoring Collaborative, Montgomery County Sheriff, Police Athletic League, Unified Health Solutions, United Way, Wesley Community Center, YMCA of Kettering, YWCA Dayton andPat Russell
